Higher Diploma:
Teaching Contemporary Singing

Picture

Course Overview

If you are a singer or singing teacher age 21 or over, with a solid performance background and some teaching experience, wanting to develop or consolidate your teaching skills and knowledge of a wide range of contemporary vocal pedagogies, then this course may be the one for you! Please note, applicants should have a strong academic background in order to successfully complete this course.

You will study the fascinating and complex subject of vocal registers in great depth, and to that end you'll be given access to one of The Voice College's "secret weapons" - our unique and comprehensive guide to registers, which breaks the subject down in a way that makes sense to both singers and teachers alike, and is firmly rooted in the best and the latest research. No more wondering who to believe! No more confusion about 'the mix', where the breaks are, or whether head voice and falsetto are the same thing. We are absolutely passionate about the subject of registers and we feel that teachers at Diploma level and above simply must walk away from their studies with a good grasp of the subject.

Teaching technique and psychology will be addressed so that you feel secure in your teaching ability, and you will also have ample opportunity to hone your skills in the teaching practise modules, which are assessed live online towards the end of your course.

Another key ingredient is the Voice-Body Connection module, which has been known to change (teaching) lives!

The course also allows you to choose two 3 credit (single) modules, or 1 x double. We have a great range of modules available and we promise you will be spoilt for choice! Simply choose subjects which enhance or contrast with your existing knowledge and experience. Our Admissions staff will be pleased to help you to put together the most productive choices for your needs.

You will be given ample time to practise your teaching skills, which will be assessed ‘live’ online at the end of your course. As with all of our distance-learning courses, the Higher Diploma is fully tutor-supported.

Please note: if you enrol on this course having previously studied with us and having taken either modules S3 or S2, you will be able to replace those modules with additional electives.

Final note: you are required to demonstrate competence in singing ability on application, by supplying website links (own website, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, Youtube, professional Facebook page, Dropbox folder or similar). We can also accept mp3 / mp4 files via email if no other option is available.
