Diploma:
Teaching Contemporary Singing
(Working with Adolescents)

Course Overview

If you are a singer or singing teacher age 18 or over, with a solid background in performance, and wish to specialise in teaching young singers age 12 - 17, then this course may be the one for you!  Getting vocal training right from the ground up is very important to us at The Voice College, and we realise that teaching teenagers is not the same as teaching adults - hence the need for this course!

You will study the development of the larynx in teenagers, through the five stages of transformation in boys, and three in girls. You will be taught which exercises to use for the various stages, and how to keep the voice safe whilst encouraging it to develop. You will also learn how to correctly and effectively warm up the voice so that it is properly 'set up' for ongoing development, and we will provide a wide range of resources and strategies for teaching the emerging teen voice.

In addition, you will be taught some essential approaches to the practice of teaching, in order that you know how to deliver your new-found knowledge, and naturally you will be given ample time to practise your teaching skills, which will be assessed ‘live’ online at the end of your course. As with all of our distance-learning courses, this Diploma is fully tutor-supported.

Please note you are required to demonstrate competence in singing ability on application, by supplying website links (own website, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, Youtube, professional Facebook page, Dropbox folder or similar). We can also accept mp3 / mp4 files via email if no other option is available.
