The Challenge: 10th - 18th October 2014
Sound like fun?
Well of course it will be! And while you're having fun, you'll be Doing A Really Good Thing for charity. Everyone's a winner.
If you're a VIDLA student, ex-student or team member, you are invited to lead a "Choir in a Day" event for The One-Day Sing-Thing in your area. Think of it as a great way to raise your local profile too!
Invite people along who might never have sung before, invite your students, invite your friends and family, ask unsuspecting passers-by in off the street - then treat them to the most fun day they've ever had, learning some songs, finding out a bit about singing technique if that suits your approach, and giving a performance at the end of the day.
Interested? Great! Just contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll get you started and clue you in on all of the details. Let's get the everyone singing!
How To Get Involved
Events are taking place in various locations:
Atherstone, Colchester, Gorsley, Ilkeston, Market Harborough, Worcester and Riga (Latvia). (Click links for details and how to join in)!
You can also keep right up to date with what's happening via our Facebook page which will list the locations and group leaders.
You don't need any singing experience to take part on the day - in fact, we're saying beginners and the faintly terrified are more than welcome! You won't be made to sing on your own, it's a chance to have a go at something that you may always have wanted to do and if you come with a friend it's bound to be amazing fun. Our students and ex-students are a lovely bunch, so whoever's leading, you'll be in very good hands!
Each event will be unique, structured to suit the individual leader, the venue and the locality. There are also no constraints on song choice, accompaniment or style - it's all down to the group leader on the day. But wherever you are, and whatever songs are chosen, you can bet it will be tremendous fun and chances are you'll meet some great new friends too - all in the name of charity. Everyone wins!
How to Donate (even if you don't take part)
Together with our friends at L'Amore Entertainment, we have chosen four charities that are close to our hearts and also to many others. We think you'd be very lucky to live in a town or village where no-one was affected by prostate cancer, meningitis or M.E./C.F.S.
Additionally, both we and L'Amore Entertainment are delighted to nominate Bedazzle Projects as our fourth charity. They provide opportunities and education in performing arts for disadvantaged children and those with special educational needs. As we know, the arts are woefully underfunded in the UK, so we give a huge round of applause to this terrific company for doing what they do!
We're working in happy harmony with...
Anyone who would like to participate in an event in their area will be asked to make a donation of £5.00 per head to one of the charities listed. There is a Just Giving page for each charity so all you need to do is click on one of the links below. That £5 buys you a whole day of fun and singing... that's pretty good bang for your buck!
If you would like to make a donation of any size to any of the charities, you are of course very welcome to do so! (Even if you're not able to participate on the day). Your donation will be put to good use no matter which organisation it goes to, and all donations matter, regardless of how big or small.

We're also happy to tell you that the banner photo and the all-singing all-arms-in-the-air shot under "how to get involved" are the work of our ace Registrar Cordelia Lewis (aka Givvi Flynn) who happens to be a dab hand with a camera at live events!
